Tawa Law Court in Makueni County condemned a 40-year-old man to 25 years in jail for defiling an 11-year-old girl who was left alone in the house.
Court reports say the suspect took advantage of the early teenager after her grandmother had left the house.
The court ruled that the prosecution established their case beyond any reasonable doubt.
Following the conviction, the prosecution, led by Ms. Naomi Waweru, submitted sentencing proposals in which she urged the court to consider the prevalence of the offence within the court’s jurisdiction, as well as the impact of the offense on the child.
She had requested the court to pass a deterrence sentence to serve as an example to other potential sexual offenders.
