Tell us the truth about BBI — Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa dares Uhuru

Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has insisted that the BBI document calling for constitutional amendment has a hidden agenda that President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga do want to tell Kenyans.

Addressing mourners during a burial in Kilifi town, Ms Jumwa said that had the BBI document holds good news for Kenyans, the government would not have mastered the art of intimidating Kenyans in accepting it.

“We know that the bill is currently in our county assemblies for debate before it is passed by the MCAs. But when President Kenyatta and Mr Odinga discovered that the bill was so unpopular, they promised a Sh2milloon car grants to all MCAs so that they can pass the bill.

The point of our concern is that if the bill is good for Kenyans, why they should give money to MCAs so that they can pass it,” she said.

The fiery Tanga Tanga MP allied to Deputy President William Ruto said BBI does not hold any good for this country and it should be rejected in all corners of the country.

“It is very sad for President Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to go around the country popularizing BBI without telling Kenyans the truth. Why can’t they tell Kenyans that the BBI will increase parliamentary seats from the current 419 to 650 with their wage bill to be paid by Kenyans,” said Ms Jumwa.

She added that parliament would just have been used to amend the constitution clause to allow for more resources into the counties instead of going for referendum.

“President Kenyatta has enough members of parliament and joining with Mr Raila, they have numbers at the national assembly to amend the constitution from the previous 15 per cent allocation to counties to a higher figure. That required no referendum at all.

The fun thing again is that the President is next year going to exist the top office but he has moved out of state house to drum up support for the document. Can’t you see that there is a sinister motive towards this BBI thing and the only solution is to reject it,” she said.

Ms Jumwa and his Kilifi North counterpart Owen Baya are the two leading figures opposing the BBI document in Kilifi County.

Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has been leading the campaigning to popularize the document asking Kilifi residents to vote for it as it will be a big boost to counties.
