Ten police officers were arrested after the robbers they apprehended revealed that the money they declared as recovered was not even half of what they took.
According to reports, the thieves stole $110,000 and Euro700 from a Burundi national after leaving a forex bureau in the Makindye area making him pass out temporarily.
Good Samaritans assisted the man in regaining consciousness, and one of them is said to have reported the crime to a police informer.
However, the crime intelligence officers are said not to have informed their superiors about the incident and went ahead to hunt down the thieves independently.
The officers at a station in Kampala, Uganda, are said to have located the thieves in the Masajja area and recovered the cash, but only declared that they found $20,000 and Euro500.
The suspects who had been arrested and detained blew the officers’ cover, saying they had declared less than half of what they had taken from their hideout.
