Some MCA aspirants on the ODM tickets in Kilifi County have disagreed to reach a consensus and are pushing the party to carry out nominations.

The aspirants from Malindi town, Shella, and Ganda wards said they invested heavily in the campaigns.

They are optimistic that they will win in the primaries and are opposed to the issuance of direct tickets to some individuals.

Malindi Constituency has five wards.

In two other wards of Jilore and Kakuyuni, the members were handed over the direct ticket because they do not have competitors.

Malindi Sub County ODM Acting chairman Nixon Mramba said in Jilore there were two candidates but the sitting MCA Daniel Chai Chiriba quit the race and joined UDA party to vie for the Malindi parliamentary seat while in Kakuyuni he is the only ODM MCA aspirant hence there would be no nomination.

However, he said the other three including Malindi, town, Shella, and Ganda ward the aspirants disagreed and want to go for nominations.

Speaking to journalists after meeting the aspirants separately as per their wards he said Malindi town ward which had seven aspirants failed to agree because each member felt they are able to be the best placed to fly the flag.

He said in Shella there were three aspirants but one had stepped down in favor of Twahir Abdulkarim who also disagreed with the sitting MCA Kadenge Mwathethe.

In Ganda he said there are five aspirants and also they did not agree on a consensus and wanted nominations too.

“If there is a ward which is 100 percent ODM is Malindi townward, there if you contest with another party you lose but if you get an ODM ticket and get support from other candidates then you are definitely going to win,” he said.

The Kakuyuni Ward MCA said they gave the aspirants time to discuss so as to reach a consensus but failed to agree.

He said they are going to prepare a report which would be submitted to ODM national Election board for further directions.

Rashid Odhiambo one of the aspirants in Malindi town ward said they have faith in ODM to do free and fair nominations.

He said those who are in the national Elections board should go ahead and conduct the primaries like what used to happen previously.

“We are ready for the nominations that is the only way which will determine everyone’s position the issue of direct nomination is not acceptable,” he said.

On his part Oscar Wanje, an aspirant from Ganda ward said he was ready for anything be it nomination or consensus provided that the ODM party remains strong and united after the decision which will be made.

When the nomination dates were announced Wanje said he was ready for the primaries and respected the party’s decision to postpone the exercise.

“I respect the decision of the party if they feel consensus would be the right way I have no problem and if it will be nomination I am ready because of one thing, respect and protecting the integrity of the party which is popular in this region,” he said.

Baraka Mataza another aspirant in Malindi town ward called on the NEB to ensure they do not lose any candidate after any decision which will be made on getting the best aspirant so as to win the seat.

“ODM is still a strong party and we believe the union we have with these other aspirants we are going to have one of the best from us,” he said.
