Tharaka Nithi: Accident Claims Lives of Four Wedding Guests

According to Thau church chairman Joseph Limuli, the driver lost control of the bus after one of its tyres burst.

Four people died and several others were injured in a road accident on the Meru-Nairobi Highway in Njuri, Tharaka Nithi early Saturday.

A bus from Ruiri Girl’s High School was transporting members of Thau Methodist Church from Tigania West to a wedding in Karen, Nairobi, when the accident occurred around 5 a.m.

Tharaka Nithi County Disaster Manager Alex Mugambi confirmed the accident and said four people are still trapped in the wreckage at the time.

“Survivors were taken to Chuka County Referral Hospital, and four people, whom we fear are dead, are still trapped in the wreckage,” Mr Mugambi said.

According to Thau church chairman Joseph Limuli, the driver lost control of the bus after one of its tyres burst.

He stated that they had left the village around 2 a.m.

“We are concerned that the four trapped people may be dead now because they are not responding to calls like they used to,” Mr Limuli said.
