The office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions has asked court to consider sentencing former Samburu Governor alongside his co-accused persons to serve the harshest sentence ever as per the Law.
The ODPP too is requesting that the court issues an order preventing Moses Kasaine Lenolkulala from holding office given the fact that he is now a convict.
According to the prosecution, the purpose of a sentence should be to make inference that Individuals in the positions of leadership that they won’t go unpunished should they commit corruption.
The prosecution informed court that Samburu County is one of the marginalized areas in Kenya hence the corruption offence committed by the former Governor was a betrayal to the County resident.
“Communities have to feel the sense of security and sleep like babies knowing their funds are safe in the hands of their leaders…” submitted the prosecution.
The ODPP told court that the trust bestowed to Hon. Lenolkulal by the people of Samburu was mutilated the moment he committed the offence.
The Court was also told that the accused persons hoodwinked Samburu County and facilitated the commission of the heinous corruption.
EACC on their part urged the trial Magistrate Hon. Thomas Nzyoki to implore section 64 of the Anti-Coerruption AND Economic Crimes Act to block all the Convicts from holding any public office.
The sentencing will be at 3:30pm today.
