President William Ruto has said there will be no handshake between him and Opposition leader Raila Odinga.
However, the President stated that there will be an engagement in parliament.
“Will there be a handshake? There will be no handshake but there will be an engagement in parliament. Whatever can be resolved will be resolved,” Ruto said.
“We have a government and opposition. We don’t want democracy to be undermined. Kenyans want a democracy where the system of checks and balances works.”
He made the remarks on Tuesday during a press conference in Kigali with his Rwandan counterpart, Paul Kagame.
Raila Odinga, the leader of the opposition, called off two weeks of anti-government protests after agreeing to a bipartisan approach to resolving his demands.
However, he stated that if the truce fails, the protests would resume.
“Should there be no meaningful engagement or response from Ruto to our counteroffer, we are set to resume our demonstrations after one week,” the Azimio One Kenya Coalition leader said.
