Thika Detectives Nab Suspected Kidnappers, Free Two Victims

Written by Were Kelly

Detectives in Thika West successfully rescued two young women from the clutches of suspected kidnappers and apprehended two men believed to be behind a series of abductions in central Kenya.

The suspects, named Davis Mugambi and John Maina Macharia, were taken into custody following a swift operation on Thursday, triggered by concerned residents in Muguga who alerted authorities about two women being held captive in a house.

When officers burst onto the scene, they found the victims visibly shaken, in tears, and showing signs of physical abuse. Their mobile phones had been taken away, likely to isolate them from the outside world.

A thorough search of the hideout revealed seven mobile phones, five Safaricom SIM cards, and three Airtel SIM cards.

Outside, police seized a vehicle with the registration KDT 998N, which is believed to have been used to transport the victims from Nyeri to Thika. Inside the car, detectives discovered four kitchen knives, seven matchboxes, and other suspicious items.

Initial investigations suggest that the women were kidnapped in Nyeri on August 19, 2025, and brought to Thika in the confiscated vehicle. Further inquiries have revealed that Mugambi is a wanted suspect in Nyeri, linked to several kidnapping and theft cases.

Authorities suspect that the two men are part of a larger criminal network targeting young women throughout the region. Both suspects are currently in custody as detectives wrap up their investigations before they are brought to court.
