Thika MP Speaks After Receiving Coveted Development Award

Patrick Wainaina, Member of Parliament (MP) for Thika Town, who was crowned the best performing MP at the Mizani Africa Awards last week, owes his victory to the several school infrastructure improvement projects he has launched in his constituency.

Wainaina claims to have transformed the area’s education sector over the last three years by focusing on giving outdated classrooms a makeover and outfitting them with tables and other learning resources.

Hon. Wainaina, an Independent MP stated his effort was recognized after meeting with National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG/ CDF) personnel in Thika town, Wainaina.

“I found a struggling education sector where most schools lacked gates, fences and others didn’t have windows. We have fixed all that to the extent that some are attracting learners from neighbouring counties,” said Hon. Wainaina.

Gatuanyaga and Kamenu Primary Schools in Thika West Sub-County, as well as Ngoliba Primary School in Thika East Sub-County, are among the schools that Wainaina has managed to transform.

These are among the most populated areas in the Constituency, and they now have burglar-proof windows and doors, cemented floors, reconstructed toilets, kitchens, and roofing.

He said through issuing of Uwezo funds and other programmes he has initiated, they have supported over 2,000 groups some of which have made huge strides economically.

Wanaina said empowerment programmes have lifted several groups that were almost folding during this Covid-19 period.
