Three KDF Soldiers Feared Dead, Seven Injured in Lamu IED Attack

Three Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers have reportedly died and seven others injured in a deadly explosion involving an improvised explosive device (IED) in the Badaah area along the Kiunga–Sankuri road in Lamu County.

The incident occurred as the soldiers were returning from a mission to transport their colleagues stationed in Sankuri. Lamu East Deputy County Commissioner George Kubai confirmed the attack, stating that the military vehicle struck the IED near Kiunga on its return journey.

A joint security operation has since been launched in the area to track down those responsible for planting the deadly device. Local residents have expressed fears that the region is increasingly falling under the threat of terrorist activity, pointing to similar past incidents.

Security forces suspect the involvement of Al-Shabaab militants, who have been known to target military convoys and security personnel in Lamu County and other parts of northern Kenya.

The Kenya Defence Forces and national security agencies have vowed to intensify patrols and surveillance operations in the area, assuring the public that efforts are underway to restore calm and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The latest attack is a grim reminder of the ongoing security challenges in the region, particularly in areas bordering Somalia, where militant activity has remained a persistent threat.
