Three people have been confirmed dead following a road accident at the Zion area near as Machinery Market, in Makueni County along the busy Nairobi–Mombasa Highway. Among the dead is a vibrant Kitui Genz student leader Mr. Kelvin Kioko Nyerere.
Nyerere’s last post on WhatsApp status was a call to the youth to register as voters in the ongoing “Niko Kadi” and vote for President William Ruto.
According to preliminary reports, a matatu veered off the road before overturning, resulting in the fatal crash. The circumstances leading to the accident were not immediately established.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, where rescue efforts were initiated to assist the injured and retrieve victims from the wreckage.
Authorities have since begun clearing the scene as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.
Motorists using the highway have been advised to exercise caution when approaching the area due to expected traffic disruption.
The incident adds to growing concerns over road safety along the Nairobi–Mombasa corridor, which remains one of the country’s busiest and most accident-prone highways.
