Authorities have arrested three more suspects in connection to the violent protests that rocked Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County, on June 25, 2025.
The arrests, made during an intelligence-led operation, bring the total number of suspects apprehended in the wake of the chaos to a dozen, as the state intensifies its crackdown on alleged protest organizers and participants.
The latest individuals in custody have been identified as John Ndung’u Wanjiru, Samuel Githua Waithera, and Kelvin Karuga Nduta.
They are currently being held as police complete processing ahead of their scheduled arraignment. According to security sources, the trio is believed to have played key roles in orchestrating the violent turn of the demonstrations.
As earlier reported by Uzalendo News, the June 25 protests in Ol Kalou spiraled into mayhem, with scenes of looting, malicious damage to property, and arson attacks.
Several people were left injured after clashes between protestors and anti-riot police turned bloody, prompting a wave of condemnation from both state officials and human rights groups.
The government has maintained a hardline stance, vowing to pursue all perpetrators behind the unrest.
“We are using intelligence and technology to track down individuals who incited or participated in these criminal acts,” a senior security official told Uzalendo News on condition of anonymity.
However, civil society organizations have raised concerns over the sweeping arrests, warning against the criminalization of dissent and calling for adherence to due process.
Meanwhile, sources within the Directorate of Criminal Investigations indicate that more arrests are expected as authorities continue to analyze CCTV footage, phone records, and witness statements from the day of the protests.
The suspects are expected to face charges related to incitement to violence, destruction of property, and unlawful assembly once arraigned.
