Thug in Uniform: Viral Parklands Robber Arrested

A dramatic breakthrough has been made in the investigation into the violent robbery that occurred in Parklands on June 28, after police arrested a suspect in Eldoret who was found in possession of a police-style reflector jacket believed to have been used during the heist.

The robbery, which was caught on camera and widely shared online, showed a businessman being ambushed shortly after withdrawing money from a local bank.

The footage revealed a silver Toyota Axio blocking the businessman’s car, before two men jumped out — one of them wearing what appeared to be a police reflector jacket and head cap, robbing the victim of a substantial amount of cash.

Investigators from Parklands Police Station launched a manhunt, piecing together leads and analyzing surveillance footage.

Their efforts led them to Eldoret, where the suspect was tracked down and arrested on July 2. The silver Toyota Axio used in the robbery was also recovered.

Upon searching the vehicle, police discovered items believed to have been used to impersonate law enforcement, including a reflector jacket resembling those worn by police officers, a white police headdress, and two separate vehicle registration plates. The suspect was escorted back to Nairobi along with the recovered items for further questioning and processing.

The National Police Service has commended the officers involved for their swift response and professionalism. In a statement, the service condemned the use of police regalia in criminal activities and assured the public that all those involved in the robbery will be brought to justice.

Investigations are ongoing, and police believe more suspects may be at large.
