According to a TIFA poll released on Wednesday, Azimio la Umoja Coalition supporters are more likely to sleep hungry than Kenya Kwanza counterparts.
According to a TIFA survey conducted between March 11 and March 19, 2023, 17% of Kenyan households frequently go to bed on an empty stomach, 29% do so occasionally, and 51% never sleep hungry.
In terms of political affiliation, 20% of Azimio supporters said they always or frequently sleep hungry, while 14% of Kenya Kwanza supporters said they have also slept on an empty stomach.
According to the survey, 33% of Azimio supporters have gone to bed hungry at least once, compared to 26% of Kenya Kwanza supporters.
While 56% of Kenya Kwanza supporters said they had never slept hungry, 44% of Azimio supporters said the same. 3% of Kenyans were unsure whether they had slept hungry.
On the other hand, 20% of Kenyans who are not affiliated with any political party frequently sleep hungry, 26% sleep hungry only occasionally, and 49% never. 4% of this group were unsure whether they had slept on an empty stomach.
According to the survey, one out of every five Kenyans often sleeps hungry.
Furthermore, the survey found that the high cost of leaving is a major concern for both Azimio and Kenya Kwanza supporters (48%).
However, TIFA notes that it is far too early to predict how successful the government will be in addressing Kenyans’ challenges, especially since so many of the factors influencing policy remain beyond its control.
