Khaby Lame, the world’s most-followed TikTok creator, has been appointed as UNICEF’s newest Goodwill Ambassador, joining a prestigious group of global advocates for children’s rights.
The appointment was announced on Friday during an event in Senegal, his birth country, following a four-day visit where he met young changemakers.
The 24-year-old Senegalese-born Italian social media sensation, known for his signature silent reaction videos, will use his vast platform to champion critical issues affecting children worldwide.
UNICEF stated that Lame will focus on raising awareness around education and skills training, gender equality, protection from violence, and access to health and nutrition.
“It’s a true honor to be appointed as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and be part of an organization that puts children’s rights front and center every day,” Lame said.
“From my own experience as a child fearing poverty, struggling at school, and losing my job during the COVID-19 pandemic, I know that all children can thrive when given opportunities.”
Lame boasts over 162 million followers on TikTok, making him one of the most influential figures in digital media.
His journey from factory worker to global internet star has resonated with millions, and his appointment reinforces the power of social media in advocating for meaningful causes.
UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell welcomed Lame’s inclusion in the organization’s ambassadorial team, praising his ability to connect with young audiences.
“Khaby is a passionate advocate for children and young people. His creativity and unique perspective have inspired millions, and we are thrilled to have him on board,” she said.
Lame joins a distinguished roster of UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors, including David Beckham, Millie Bobby Brown, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Leo Messi, and Shakira.
