Content creator Vincent Kaluma, popularly known as Kaluma Boy, has received a full scholarship to pursue a degree at The East African University (TEAU) after his emotional story of caring for his sick father captured national attention.
Kaluma, who has been sharing his journey of single-handedly nursing his ailing father on social media, moved Kenyans to act. On Sunday, September 28, well-wishers turned up at his home in large numbers to offer financial help and household support.
During a church service at JCM Church in Ruiru, Bishop Muthee Kiengei announced that the university’s Vice Chancellor, Dr Christopher Mutembei, had confirmed the scholarship offer.
“Dr Mutembei has confirmed that Kaluma Boy has been granted a full scholarship to study a degree in Sales and Marketing at The East African University,” Bishop Kiengei said. “This opportunity will help him sharpen his digital marketing skills. Soon, we will all celebrate his graduation.”
Located in Kitengela, Kajiado County, TEAU is a chartered private institution recognised by the Commission for University Education (CUE).
Kaluma has also received brand ambassador offers alongside numerous donations. Previously, he worked on local farms picking tea to pay for his father’s medical bills.
Speaking after the fundraiser, Kaluma expressed deep gratitude: “I thank Kenyans for supporting me. You have changed our lives, and may God bless you all.”
He revealed that his father suffered a stroke in August 2024, leaving him bedridden and requiring constant care. “It has been hard. The medications are expensive, but I believe he will recover,” he said.
His mother, Beatrice Wangechi, also thanked Kenyans, describing their response as “miraculous.”
“I saw wonders I have never seen before,” she said emotionally. “This has shown me the power of talent and mobile phones. God bless everyone who helped us.”
