Divock Origi has already agreed terms with AC Milan over a move to the Italian giants from Liverpool.
Calciomercato claim that Origi ‘considers his successful experience with Liverpool to be over’ as he prepares for a new challenge.
The 26-year-old’s representatives reportedly met with the Milan hierarchy on Monday. It’s claimed that a contract agreement was reached during the meeting.
According to Calciomercato, Origi is keen to join a club where he can return to being a key player and can compete for trophies.
For Milan’s part, they were reportedly impressed by the player’s performance against them in San Siro in December. Origi was excellent that night and scored Liverpool’s winner with a pinpoint header.
In logical terms, Origi’s departure absolutely makes sense. The Belgian hasn’t featured anything like regularly for Jurgen Klopp since the title winning season of 2019/20.
Since featuring 28 times as Klopp’s side marched to the Premier League title, Origi has only played a further 14 times in the same competition. Just two of those appearances have been starts.
After the arrival of Luis Diaz, he is currently jostling with Takumi Minamino for the sixth choice attacking spot. With the likelihood of another attacker arriving in the summer, he will slip even further down the pecking order.
But it will still be a wrench to see Origi leave the club where he has become a legend. He has rarely been a starter under Klopp but his catalogue of huge moments is quite remarkable.
However, he will leave with the best wishes of every single Liverpool fan.
A legend departs
Maybe it’s because of his laid-back personality, perhaps it’s because he doesn’t feature too much. But whatever the reason, people underestimate just what a good player Divock can be.
Klopp was keen to remind everyone of the quality of his player after he had to leave him out of Wednesday night’s win over Arsenal.
He deserves to start a story at a club where he can get regular playing time under his belt. At Milan there is a clear opening as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Olivier Giroud are both getting on a bit.
So, it looks inevitable that one of the most peculiar Liverpool careers of recent times is set to come to an end this summer. But Liverpool are still in the hunt for everything this season, there’s plenty of time for Divock to add an iconic moment or two yet. You wouldn’t bet against him.
