Today Marks 1998 US Embassy Bombing

Today, August 7, 2022, marks the 1998 US embassy bombing, which killed over 200 people and injured another 5,000.

As Kenya commemorates the 24th anniversary of the terrorist assault, unhealed scars, profound anguish at the incomprehensible loss of life, and heartbreaking memories of the extraordinary tragedy linger to portray a picture of how Kenyans persevered in the face of adversity.

The Egyptian Islamists Jihad, affiliated to the late Osama bin Laden, were blamed for the attack.

On such days, Kenyans who have lost loved ones pay their tributes at Nairobi’s Memorial Park. To memorialize those who died, a plaque with the names of the victims was erected on the premises.

Leaders have recognized the victims of the horrible act, led by US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman.
