Top Amateur Golfers Set to Battle at Nyanza Golf Club in KCB East Africa Golf Tour

More than 110 top amateur golfers from Kisumu and neighboring clubs are set to tee off this weekend in the 12th leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour at the par-70 Nyanza Golf Club.

The event, which returns to the historic club for the third consecutive year, promises a thrilling showcase of talent. Notable names expected to headline the competition include Joseph Atito, Nishal Shah, David Omolo, Dr. Rosemary Obara, and promising junior golfer Tony Nyambogo.

“Nyanza Golf Club has traditionally been a challenging course. Many players are always eager to come here to compete in various events,” said Club Captain Griffin Owino. “We are excited to be part of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour again, highlighting the growth of golf in this region. The course is in the absolute best condition and we are optimistic we will have a fantastic showpiece.”

Now in its third edition at the club, the tournament continues to boost golfing culture across East Africa. The tour has already made stops in six Kenyan counties, Kiambu, Kericho, Nandi, Nairobi, Mombasa, and Nanyuki, as well as in Burundi, with each leg drawing strong regional participation.

KCB Group Director of Marketing and Communications, Rosalind Gichuru, emphasized the tournament’s broader mission: “We cannot overlook the growing influence of golf in the Nyanza region. The emphasis on youth development aligns perfectly with our brand values. This weekend, the top two teams will qualify for the grand finale set for December 5.”

Beyond competition, the tour also focuses on grassroots development. More than 1,500 participants and over 1,000 juniors have benefited from golf clinics held alongside the series. Another junior-only clinic is scheduled for Sunday, June 15, underscoring KCB’s commitment to nurturing young talent.

Following the Kisumu showdown, the tour will proceed to Kiambu Golf Club on June 21, 2025.
