Tot Parish Welcomes New Shepherd Amid Lingering Grief for Slain Priest

The Tot Catholic Parish has officially welcomed its new priest, Rev. Fr. Ken Kiplangat, in an emotional handover ceremony held over the weekend.

The moment marked a turning point for a parish still mourning the brutal loss of its former shepherd, Rev. Fr. Alois Bett.

Fr. Bett, a beloved priest known for his deep devotion and tireless service, was fatally shot by armed bandits just two kilometres from St. Mulumba Catholic Church in Tot.

He had been returning from a Jumuiya mass when the ambush occurred, shaking the community and reigniting national concern over insecurity in the volatile Kerio Valley region.

His death sent shockwaves across the Catholic Church and the country at large, with parishioners and clergy mourning a man described as “a shepherd who truly walked with his flock.”

It has now been over 50 days since his burial, but the grief remains fresh for many.

The parish continues to pray for the soul of Fr. Bett and for strength upon Fr. Ken as he begins his ministry in a community still healing from a painful loss.
