The National Treasury has invited public feedback on the proposed national tax policy before it is finalized.
According to the exchequer, public and private sector institutions, as well as individuals, have until August 5 to submit written comments on the draft document.
The Draft National Tax Policy proposes developing policy to guide the collection, enforcement, and administration of tax laws, as well as creating a foundation for tax law review and development.
The return of presumptive taxes for agriculture and informal sector jobs, as well as the limitation of tax exempt items covered by zero-rating and VAT exemption lists, are highlights of the draft policy.
The policy also calls for the establishment of a tax court to expedite the resolution of disputes between the KRA and taxpayers, as opposed to the tax tribunal and the high court.
