Truck driver charged with theft of Government fertilizer worth over Sh 2M

A truck driver was today charged with Stealing 560 bags of Urea Fertilizer in transit to the Kenya National Cereals and Produce Board.

Benson Omondi Bonyo appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Bernard Ochoi where he was charged with stealing goods in transit contrary to section 279 (C) of the Penal Code.

Omondi has been charged that on 23rd August, this year, within Mlolongo Machakos Sub- County along Mombasa Nairobi Highway jointly with others not before court, stole 560 bags of Urea 46% Nitrogen fertilizer the property of National Cereals Produce Board (NCPB)Awendo.

According to the chargesheet, the fertilizer that Omondi is alleged to have stolen valued at Sh 2,268,000.

The court heard that he stole the said fertilizer from a truck registration No. KBU 962A make Mercedes Axor and trailer No. ZG 8156 while the said consignment was in transit from Yara East Africa Ltd (k) Jomvu-Madafuni Mombasa to National Cereals Produce Board Awendo branch.

The accused denied the charge and was released on a bond of Sh 800,000.
