On the night of the anniversary of the U.S. Capitol riot, when a crowd of Trump supporters attempted to disrupt the presidential election, former President Donald Trump called on “MAGA Nation” to “stand up” against vaccine mandates.
Critics have linked his instigation of the insurgency on Jan. 6, 2021, to a similar language.
Trump slammed President Joe Biden’s anti-COVID-19 efforts in a statement posted by his spokesperson on Wednesday. COVID-19 is spreading swiftly across the country again as the omicron variant takes root.
"Now, the Biden Administration is talking about closing schools and even mandating vaccines for schoolchildren," according to the statement. "This is an atrocity, and MAGA supporters around the country should unite to reject this terrible federal government overreach."
Biden has not stated if he intends to expand vaccine mandates to include kids.
Certain immunizations are required for students in each of the 50 states.
According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, California is currently the only state that requires children to receive the COVID-19 vaccine for school entry in 2022, though some cities, counties, and school districts have implemented coronavirus vaccine requirements for specific age groups or activities such as sports.
One year after the violent storming of the Capitol, which he was impeached for encouraging, Trump was chastised for using the term “raise up.”
