U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin had agreed to a personal request to pause strikes on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities for one week due to record-setting cold.

During a Cabinet meeting at the White House, Trump stated he personally asked Putin to halt attacks because temperatures in the region were forecast to drop as low as -30°C (-22°F).
Trump claimed Putin agreed to the seven-day pause, describing the Russian leader’s response as “very nice”.President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed the “important statement,” noting that a pause would allow teams to restore energy services vital for civilian survival in the winter. Reports suggest Ukraine may mirror this by pausing its own strikes on Russian oil refineries.
The Kremlin has not yet confirmed the truce. Earlier that day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to comment on whether a mutual halt on energy facility strikes was being discussed.
This announcement follows recent trilateral talks between Russia, Ukraine, and the U.S. held in Abu Dhabi, aimed at ending the four-year conflict.
