Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced Monday that Hunter Biden and Ashley Biden, the children of President Joe Biden, would no longer receive protection from the Secret Service.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “Please be advised that, effective immediately, Hunter Biden will no longer receive Secret Service protection. Likewise, Ashley Biden, who has 13 agents, will be taken off the list.”
Trump had hinted at the move earlier during a trip to South Africa, where he was asked about Hunter Biden’s security detail. His decision follows a pattern of revoking Secret Service protections for high-profile figures who have been critical of his administration, including former Defense Secretary Mark Esper, ex-national security adviser John Bolton, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Dr. Anthony Fauci, and former envoy to Iran Brian Hook.
Hunter Biden, who has long been the subject of Republican scrutiny, has faced numerous allegations related to his business dealings. Trump and his allies have repeatedly claimed that Hunter was involved in business activities alongside his father, allegations President Biden has denied. Hunter has also been the target of attacks involving leaked personal photos and emails.
Late last year, President Biden granted his son a full and unconditional pardon, a move that sparked further controversy.
While the Secret Service typically provides protection to immediate family members of sitting presidents, Trump’s latest move raises concerns about whether security decisions are being influenced by political motivations rather than safety assessments.
