Trump’s Sh1.3m portrait to be taken down after president complains it is ‘truly the worst’

A painting of Donald Trump hanging with other presidential portraits at the Colorado state Capitol will be taken down after US President Donald Trump complained in a Sunday (March 23) social media post that the painting is “truly the worst.”

In a post on his platform Truth Social, Trump said that the painting was purposefully distorted.

“Nobody likes a bad picture or painting of themselves, but the one in Colorado, in the State Capitol, put up by the Governor, along with all other Presidents, was purposefully distorted to a level that even I, perhaps, have never seen before. The artist also did President Obama, and he looks wonderful, but the one on me is truly the worst. She must have lost her talent as she got older. In any event, I would much prefer not having a picture than having this one, but many people from Colorado have called and written to complain. In fact, they are actually angry about it! I m speaking on their behalf to the radical Left Governor, Jared Polis, who is extremely weak on Crime, in particular with respect to Tren de Aragua, which practically took over Aurora (Don’t worry, we saved it!), to take it down. Jared should be ashamed of himself!”

He called a portrait of former US President Barack Obama, which was done by the same artist, Sarah Boardman, wonderful, but complained that he was not shown the same courtesy in his painting, blaming it on the artist’s age.

In the post, Trump called on Colorado Governor Jared Polis to take down the portrait.

According to media reports, Colorado Senate Republicans hosted an event alongside the artist in 2019 to hang the painting, which had been approved by the group. Colorado Republicans raised more than $10,000 (Sh1,293,500) through a GoFundMe account to commission the oil painting.
