The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has refuted circulating claims suggesting that high school teachers are set to be transferred to Junior Secondary Schools (JSS).Â
In a statement issued on Wednesday, TSC labeled the reports as false, urging its members to disregard the misinformation being spread on social media.
The Commission’s clarification followed the viral spread of a letter, purportedly from TSC CEO Nancy Macharia, instructing high school principals to submit names of teachers for redeployment to JSS.
The letter, which has since been flagged as fake, sparked widespread concern among Kenyans.
TSC’s swift dismissal of the claims comes amid growing anxiety over the teacher shortage in JSS across the country.
Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi recently assured the public that the government is working to address the issue.
He announced that by January 2025, approximately 46,000 JSS teachers will be confirmed, with the necessary funding already in the pipeline.
TSC’s reassurance has been welcomed by many, as the education sector continues to navigate the challenges posed by the new curriculum implementation.
