Tshala Muana Laid To Rest

Tshala Muana, a top Congolese musician, was buried in Kinshasa on Friday.

Tshala, also known as Mamu Nationale (Mother of the Nation) and the “Queen of Mutuashi,” passed away on December 10 after a long illness.

Her body, like Kiamuangana’s, was discovered at the Hospital du Cinquantenaire in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Verckys, a veteran saxophonist, composer, bandleader, and musician’s rights activist, died in October.

A two-day funeral vigil for Tshala ended on Thursday at Maisha Park, according to a tentative funeral program released in Kinshasa on Tuesday.

A funeral service was held at the Palais de Peuple (People’s Palace) for fellow musicians, fans, and state officials.

Tshala, who began her career as a dancer before becoming one of the leading Congolese female singers, will be remembered for popularizing her Tshiluba language from the country’s southern Kasai region.

Unlike other prominent Congolese musicians, Tshala recorded the majority of her songs in Tshiluba, one of the official languages.

She was especially good at promoting the sexy traditional mutuashi cultural dance that expressed feminism.
