A Sh20 million Islamic training institution has been launched in Kilifi to train students in Muslim religion.
The project is being undertaken by A Non-Governmental organization from Turkey which will also include an orphanage project.
Holistic Educational trust in partnership with Dr. Sahin Help, a Non-Profit Organization from Germany aims at training Islamic students for free to enable them to become trainers.
The groundbreaking ceremony was held at the site and attended by more than 1,000 Islamic faithful together with Muslim scholars, donors, and political leaders from the Coast. They included Former Lamu Governor Issa Timammy, Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo, and Kilifi North MP Owen Baya among others.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony of the project at Mtondia Selchuk Turk Director of Holistic Educational Trust East Africa said the construction process will take six months and the project will be ready for use.
He said the students will undergo Islamic training for six years and then go to Turkey for three years after which they will come back to train other Muslim students with a view to spreading the Islamic religion.
“It will be an orphanage center and also it will be an educational center because people really need this education facility,” he said.
He said the learning institution will have boarding facilities, and everything to ensure they get the best education deserved.
“Today we are very happy 1,000 local people are here and they are supporting this organization the project cost is 200,000 dollars and we will complete in six months,” he said.
Dr Yavuz Sahin Founder of Dr. Sahin Help NGO who is funding the project said that is implemented by Holistic education trust said it was important to come up with the institution because education was very important for the children in the area.
He said 50 children from 9 years to 17 years will be the first to benefit adding that their families will benefit also.
Dr Sahin said the beneficiaries will go abroad and return home to train other students in Islamic religion which will reach out to a bigger population.
“They will learn here for about three to six years and then they will go to Istanbul they will stay there for three years they will finish their education there and will be able to teach themselves here and will come back and teach other children,” he said.
Dr Timammy on his part said it was great to get donors from Turkey and Germany who have offered to build orphanages and training institutes.
He hailed the residents of Mtondia for welcoming the donors as the project will help the locals including orphans and students.
“As leaders from Coast, we are supporting this project and we are happy donors have come to initiate such educational projects,” he said.
The former Governor said the project was in line with the government agenda of ensuring the education is free as all students will be offered full education free of charge.
Senator Madzayo thanked the donors for initiating the project in Kilifi County as it was part of the development agenda through Islamic education.
He said the institution will spread Islam and it is a good initiative because religion is important to promote faith in the county which has both Christians and Muslims.
“We thank the donors from turkey and Germany for coming to invest we urge other donors to come and invest because as Kilifi we need such investments,” he said.
Mr Baya said the project was meant to empower the people from the grassroots hence realizing the bottom-up economy agenda he has been advocating for.
