Tusker FC won the Kenya Premier League (KPL) title following their 2-0 win over Posta Rangers in the final game of the season at Ruaraka grounds, Nairobi.
The brewers were crowned champions on goal difference over Kakamega Homeboyz after both teams finished the top flight with 63 points on Sunday.
Both teams needed a convincing win in their respective fixtures as they were level on points, with Tusker boasting of a superior goal difference.
Tusker successfully defended the title they won last season when they dethroned record champions Gor Mahia, thanks to goals from Shaphan Siwa and substitute Jackson Macharia in both halves.
Tusker finished the game with 10 men after defender Kevin Monyi was sent off in the final minutes for a second yellow card booking.
Tusker needed to win this game to keep their title because they were tied at the top of the table on 60 points with Kakamega Homeboyz.
On the other hand, Homeboyz had already collected three easy points with a 2-0 walkover win after their opponents, the Kariobangi Sharks, failed to show up for the season’s final game at Mumias Sports Complex.
Therefore, Homeboyz would have won their first FKF-PL title if they had lost.
The Brewers have now won the Premier League title 13 times. Gor Mahia finished the season third with 55 points after a 2-1 win over FC Talanta last Wednesday.
Bandari finished fourth with 54 points after losing 1-0 to Kenya Police, while Nairobi City Stars completed the top five with 49 points after a 2-2 draw with Talanta.
Vihiga Bullets and Mathare United, on the other hand, have been relegated to the National Super League.
