Police in Kericho County have arrested two suspected drug traffickers and seized a large consignment of cannabis sativa following an intelligence-led operation along the Kisumu–Kericho highway.

Officers based at Sokohuru Police Post intercepted a motorcycle believed to be transporting the narcotics for distribution after receiving a tip-off from members of the public.

Upon inspection, a suitcase carried on the motorcycle was found to contain 26 bales of cannabis weighing approximately 50 kilograms. The haul is estimated to have a street value of KSh 1.5 million.

The two male suspects were arrested at the scene and have been placed in police custody. Authorities say they are currently undergoing processing and will be arraigned in court to face drug trafficking charges.

The recovered narcotics have been secured and recorded as evidence.

The National Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to disrupting drug supply networks across the country, noting that such operations form part of ongoing efforts to target trafficking routes, distribution cells, and criminal networks involved in the narcotics trade.

Police have encouraged members of the public to continue providing information, stressing that community cooperation remains essential in the fight against illicit drugs.
