Two Belgians Plead Guilty to Illegal Possession and Trade of Queen Ants

Two Belgian nationals have admitted to charges related to the illegal possession and trafficking of live queen ants.

The case, heard today at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Law Courts, revealed that Lornoy David and Seppe Lodewijckx were apprehended on April 5, 2025, around 10:00 a.m. at Jane Guest House in the Lake View area of Naivasha, Nakuru County.

According to prosecutors Allen Mulama and Paula Rono, authorities discovered approximately 5,000 live queen ants in the suspects’ possession. The insects were contained in 2,244 tubes and have an estimated street value of Ksh. 1 million.

The two were charged with unlawfully dealing in wildlife species without the necessary permits, a violation of Section 95(c) of the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act, Cap 376, Laws of Kenya.

The court adjourned the case to April 15, 2025, to allow the prosecution to present further details and submit physical evidence.
