Two young children aged three and one years died after a house was allegedly set on fire by their mother in Kongonge Upper Village, Rachuonyo West Constituency, Homa Bay County.

The tragic incident, which occurred on Sunday, also left two other children with serious burn injuries. 

The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment as authorities launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fire.

According to local residents, the children’s mother is suspected to have intentionally set the house ablaze while the children were inside. The fire quickly engulfed the structure, trapping the occupants.

The two younger children succumbed to the flames, while the other two were rescued and taken to hospital with varying degrees of burns.

The mother reportedly died by suicide shortly after the incident.
