Two police officers from DCI Dagoretti CPL Julius Onyango Oguma and PC Charles Macharia Wanjiru have been convicted for receiving a bribe of Ksh 200, 000 from an EACC Investigator.
The two DCI officers were arrested in 2018 in a staged scene after promising not to charge a Chinese investor Gong Muan with being in Kenya illegally.
The two had demanded a bribe of Sh1 million from Muan not to charge him. Muan tipped EACC and a trap was laid which led to the arrest of four police officers. Two have been acquitted while Oguma and Wanjiru were found with a case to answer.
The Learned Anti-Corruption magistrate hon.Nzioki in his judgement said that the prosecution had proved their case against two of the four accused police officers.
Consequently, the court acquitted two other police officers in the same corruption matter for lack of sufficient evidence to link them to the crime.
