On Monday night, May 31, 2021, at least two persons were killed after their light aircraft crashed onto the steep Vuria hill in Taita Taveta County.
According to earlier accounts, the small aircraft (identified as a Cessna 172) was on its way to Mombasa after departing Arusha, Tanzania.
The aircraft crashed near Mwangeka caves in Ndumbinyi, Mwanda Location at around 8pm according to area Assistant Chief John Lawia.
According to government sources cited by The Standard, the jet was carrying two persons who perished in the accident.
It is then believed to have collided with a cliff near Mwanda at 8 p.m. (Vuria Hill), with poor vision caused by thick fog in the air being suggested as a probable reason of the sad disaster.
