Tragedy struck Nosukuro area in Baringo South on Saturday night when bandits attacked a group of herders, leaving two people dead and one seriously injured.

The attack has brought to an end a period of relative peace in the region, which had lasted for nearly six months.

The two deceased were part of a group of herders who were ambushed while grazing their cattle in the fields. The bandits believed to be armed robbers, shot the victims before making off with over 50 head of cattle.

According to eyewitnesses, the herders were caught off guard by the sudden attack and were unable to defend themselves. The bandits allegedly targeted the group, shooting indiscriminately and making off with the cattle.

The bodies of the two deceased were recovered after a day-long search in the dense bushes, following a combing operation by police officers. The bodies have been taken to Kabarnet mortuary for post-mortem examination.

The injured herder was rushed to Nakuru level 4 hospital, where he is undergoing treatment for his wounds.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents calling for increased security measures to prevent such attacks in the future.

“It’s unfortunate that our peaceful region has been disrupted by this senseless violence,” said a local resident. “We urge the authorities to take immediate action to ensure our safety and security.”

The incident is the latest in a series of bandit attacks that have plagued Baringo County in recent months. Residents are calling for greater vigilance and cooperation between local authorities and community members to combat the problem.

“We urge all residents to remain calm and vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities,” said a police spokesperson. “We will do everything in our power to bring those responsible for this heinous crime to justice.”
