The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has secured a death sentence against two men convicted of robbery with violence in Maua, Meru County.
Douglas Muriithi and Antony Mugendi were found guilty of attacking and robbing a woman on the night of September 6, 2024, in Maua Location, Igembe South Sub-County.
According to court proceedings, the two assailants, armed with crude weapons including pangas, metal rods, and timber frames, confronted the victim, identified as Janice Gacheri.
They stole cash amounting to KSh 5,700, 87 kilograms of sugar valued at KSh 13,050, and 17 kilograms of onions worth KSh 850, bringing the total value of the stolen items to KSh 19,600.
The court heard that the attackers also inflicted injuries on the victim during the incident, a factor that contributed to the severity of the charge.
In its determination, the court found that the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt, leading to the conviction of the two accused persons.
They were subsequently sentenced to death in accordance with the law governing robbery with violence.
