KABARNET, Baringo County – Two men from Kalabata Village in Baringo North Sub-County have been sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted of defiling a 7-year-old girl.
Senior Principal Magistrate Hon. P. Koskey delivered the judgment at Kabarnet Law Courts following a successful prosecution by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), represented by Counsel Mr. Collins Ogutu.
The convicted men, who worked as casual laborers at the victim’s grandmother’s home and were neighbors to the family, committed the heinous acts on multiple occasions in February 2025.
The abuse resulted in severe physical injuries to the child and caused long-term psychological trauma that has left her terrified of returning to her grandmother’s residence.
During the trial, the prosecution presented compelling evidence including testimony from five witnesses, among them the minor victim herself. Medical reports and other crucial evidence were also submitted to support the defilement charges.
The court found that the prosecution had proven the guilt of the accused beyond reasonable doubt after carefully reviewing all evidence presented in the case.
The severe physical and psychological impact on the young victim was a key factor in the court’s consideration. The trauma inflicted has fundamentally altered the child’s sense of security, particularly in relation to her grandmother’s home where the abuse occurred.
