At least two people have been killed after a powerful magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck southern and central Mexico on Friday, causing moderate damage.

The quake’s epicenter was near the tourist hub of Acapulco, in the southwestern state of Guerrero, where Governor Evelyn Salgado reported the death of a 50-year-old woman.
In Mexico City, Mayor Clara Brugada confirmed a 60-year-old man had died and 12 people were injured.\

By late Friday, Brugada said power had been restored to 98% of the affected areas in the capital, following earlier outages.
