Two Police Officers Injured During Violent Arrest in Bungoma

Two police officers are recuperating in hospital after sustaining injuries during a violent arrest attempt in Stabicha village, Sirisia sub-county, Bungoma.

The confrontation occurred on Wednesday afternoon when three officers from Namwela Police Post were dispatched to apprehend a suspect accused of malicious damage to property. Upon arrival, the situation quickly escalated when the suspect resisted arrest and turned violent.

According to police reports and eyewitness accounts, the suspect assaulted the officers, biting one on the shoulder and another on the hand. The unexpected aggression left the officers injured, prompting an emergency evacuation to Kaptenai Dispensary. They were later transferred to Sirisia Sub-County Hospital for further treatment, where medical personnel confirmed their condition as stable.

The third officer, who was not harmed during the altercation, successfully subdued and arrested the suspect.

Police have confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and is expected to face multiple charges, including malicious damage to property, assaulting police officers, and resisting lawful arrest.

“This kind of violence against law enforcement officers is unacceptable, and the suspect will face the full force of the law,” said a police spokesperson.

Investigations are ongoing, and the suspect will be arraigned in court once the process is complete.
