Two suspects have been apprehended while attempting to smuggle 300kg of marijuana into the country via the Kenya-Tanzania border.
According to a report released on Monday by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Daniel Okoth and Erick Ombima entered Kenya via the Nyametaburo route before connecting to the Isibania-Migori highway in Mabera, Migori County.
Police officers stationed at the Isebania Police Station were aware of the incident and pursued the suspects in a Toyota Prado, setting up an ambush near the Karamu Bridge.
The driver is said to have attempted to run over a police officer while evading a roadblock, but was forced to stop after gunshots rang out.
DCI estimates that the seized contraband is worth Ksh.9 million.
Meanwhile, the suspects are being held at the Isibania Police Station pending further action.
