Two suspects found guilty of killing ex-Kilifi Deputy Governor Kenneth Kamto

Shanzu Law Courts In Mombasa convicted two suspects charged with the gruesome murder of former Kilifi Deputy Governor Kenneth Kamto.

The conviction brings a closure of the murder trial and an end to the pursuit of justice to the family who have been seeking justice for close to five years.

The convicted suspects Julius Gitonga M’muguu and Joseph Amwayi Mukabana were found guilty of robbery with violence, handling stolen property, and illegal possession of a firearm linked to Kamto’s murder.

A third accused, Florence Mbithe Mwanza, was acquitted of all charges.

The former deputy governor was fatally shot during a home invasion at his Nyali residence on December 12, 2018.

Fawzia Omar, Kamto’s widow, described the horrifying incident in which the attackers demanded money and attacked her before fleeing the scene.

She informed court that on that tragic Jamhuri Day eve, she was awakened by her husband’s voice, which said there were robbers in the house.

She further said that she went to the sitting room where her husband’s voice was coming from, and noticed someone standing behind the sitting room door.

She then heard a gunshot and dashed to a room near the kitchen, where the housekeeper and her mother-in-law were.

While in the room, the intruders entered and ordered them to switch on the light, and they were led to the sitting room where she saw her husband lying on the floor and groaning.

Fawzia said one of the attackers, who was wearing a mask, had a gun and slasher, and he demanded money.

The two convicts will remain in police custody awaiting sentencing.
