Two Women Who Trekked From Sugoi to Attend Ruto’s Inauguration Stranded In Nairobi

Two women who walked from Sugoi in Uasin Gishu county to Nairobi on September 13 for President William Ruto’s inauguration are now stranded and seeking an audience with the Head of State.

The duo, who traveled approximately 300 kilometers while pulling a cart, were unable to attend the swearing-in ceremony because they arrived in Nairobi late.

Three weeks after President Ruto’s election, the two are still stuck in Nairobi and have declared that they will not return home until they meet the Head of State.

Evelyne Chepkemei stated that they are attempting to secure a meeting with President Ruto in order to award him the cart for his victory and “pray together.”

“I came from Sugoi to witness Ruto’s swearing in after there I went to State House with my cart. Upon my arrival I was asked to produce my appointment then I said my appointment is the cart. I was then directed to go to Karen where I went and left my cart there hoping I would get my appointment,” she told The Standard on Thursday.

“Up to now I have not met Ruto and the main thing that brought me to Nairobi is to award him this cart as we talk and pray together for Kenya Kwanza’s victory.”

Her counterpart, Eunice Tabut, revealed that they were hosted by a “good Samaritan” during their stay in Nairobi.

“We travelled for a period of 5 days and when we left there we were tired. We met with a good Samaritan who has hosted us for the last three weeks and we have not been able to meet President Ruto,” said Ms Tabut.

Additionally, Tabut stated that since the President returned from his foreign trip, his team should make an effort to offer them an appointment.

“We were patient when he went to Queen Elizabeth’s burial and now that he is back we seek to see him so that we can head back home.”

Tabut had begun the journey before her friend, Eunice Tabut, joined her to witness the inauguration of their’son’ as Kenya’s fifth President.

The two friends made headlines when they chose to pull a cart all the way to Nairobi rather than take a faster mode of transportation.

“I decided to use the cart because I’m a hustler,” Chepkemei stated.

Tabut and Chepkemei reportedly took nearly five days to join the other Kenyans at Kasarani Stadium.

After the ceremony on Tuesday, September 13, the duo was hosted by a well-wisher.
