U.S. Endorses Kenya’s Regional Peace Efforts, Eyes Closer Strategic Ties

The United States has reaffirmed its support for Kenya’s leadership in fostering regional stability and democratic governance, while also backing its spearheading of the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission in Haiti.

This commitment was highlighted during a high-level meeting in Washington, D.C., where Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, met with U.S. Secretary of State, Senator Marco Rubio. The two leaders discussed Kenya’s peace initiatives in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), led by the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), with the involvement of five regional Heads of State.

Senator Rubio praised Kenya’s role as a stabilizing force in the region and reiterated Washington’s dedication to supporting its peacekeeping and diplomatic missions in Africa and the Caribbean.

The talks also covered trade, investment, and deeper diplomatic cooperation, with both parties emphasizing the urgency of fast-tracking the Kenya–U.S. Free Trade Agreement.

“Kenya and the United States continue to build on decades of shared values and strategic cooperation,” Mudavadi stated, citing their discussions on regional security, economic growth, and diplomatic ties.

Senator Rubio expressed interest in visiting Kenya to further bolster the bilateral relationship.
