The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned what it described as a direct and dangerous escalation after confirming that Iranian ballistic missiles targeted its territory, resulting in the death of a civilian and damage to property in Abu Dhabi.
In a statement, the Emirati Ministry of Defence said its air defence systems successfully intercepted several incoming missiles, preventing what could have been a more devastating attack. However, falling debris from the intercepted missiles landed in a residential area, causing material damage and killing one civilian of Asian nationality.
“The Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced that the UAE today was subjected to a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles, noting that UAE air defence systems dealt with the missiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a number of missiles,” the ministry stated.
Authorities confirmed that despite the incident, the overall security situation in the country remains stable, with all relevant agencies continuing to monitor developments closely.
The government issued a strong rebuke of the strike, describing it as a reckless act that endangered civilian lives and undermined regional stability.
“The Ministry strongly condemned the attack, affirming the UAE’s categorical rejection of any targeting of civilian objects, facilities and national institutions,” the statement read. “It stressed that such acts constitute a dangerous escalation and a cowardly act that threatens the safety of civilians and undermines stability.”
Officials further emphasized that the attack amounted to a violation of both national sovereignty and international law, warning that the UAE reserves the right to respond.
“The Ministry further stated that the targeting represents a blatant violation of national sovereignty and international law, affirming that the UAE reserves its full right to respond to this escalation and to take all necessary measures to protect its territory, citizens and residents,” the statement added.
The government reiterated its preparedness to handle any further threats, assuring residents that security agencies are fully equipped and on high alert.
“The Ministry affirmed its full readiness and preparedness to deal with any threats, stressing that all necessary measures are being taken to firmly confront any attempts to undermine the country’s security and stability,” the statement continued.
Authorities also sought to reassure the public, emphasizing that safety remains the top priority and urging calm.
“It added that the safety of citizens, residents and visitors remains a top priority that cannot be compromised,” the ministry said.
At the same time, the government urged the public to rely only on official communication channels and avoid spreading unverified information.
“The Ministry urged the public to rely on official sources for information and to avoid spreading rumors or unverified reports,” the statement concluded.
The incident marks a significant escalation in regional tensions, as countries across the Middle East remain on high alert amid ongoing hostilities involving Iran and its adversaries.
