Police in Uasin Gishu have launched investigations after a man was discovered to have illegally established a police patrol base at Cherus Centre, Kesses Sub-County, without the knowledge or approval of the National Police Service (NPS).
According to Citizen TV report, the suspect, identified as Collins Leitich, alias Chepkulei, a resident of Asis Village in Ndugulu location, is reported to have set up a fully painted patrol base in official police colors, creating the impression of a legitimate security post.
The unauthorized post was discovered by local authorities, who promptly alerted officers from Kamuyu Police Post under Kondoo Police Station. The incident was recorded under OB04/08/03/2025, and investigations into Leitich’s actions are now underway.
Residents of Cherus Centre were left in shock upon learning that the supposed security base was not an official government facility.
“We were surprised to learn that the police patrol base was not official. Many of us thought it was a genuine initiative to improve security in the area,” said one local resident.
Authorities are still working to establish Leitich’s motive for setting up the facility and whether he had any accomplices.
Police have assured the public that appropriate action will be taken, urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
