Uasin Gishu County has allocated Ksh.2.5 billion towards road construction in its 2025/26 budget, making infrastructure development its top priority for the coming financial year.
While presenting the budget appropriations before the County Assembly, County Executive Committee Member (CEC) for Finance, Micah Rokony, said the focus on roads aims to improve connectivity and ease access to remote and underserved areas.
“For the last two years, we have concentrated heavily on the health and water sectors. This year, we are shifting attention to roads to enhance service delivery and economic activity across the grassroots,” said Rokony.
He acknowledged that the county has struggled to meet its own-source revenue targets over the past 13 years, a shortfall that has consistently hindered the full implementation of development plans.
Despite the new infrastructure focus, health remains a key concern. The county has allocated Ksh.2.4 billion to the health sector for the upgrade of health centers, Ksh.60 million for the construction of Moiben Sub-County Hospital, and Ksh.280 million for medical supplies.
The 2025/26 budget reflects Uasin Gishu’s commitment to balanced development by addressing both infrastructure and healthcare needs, as the county seeks to improve the quality of life for its residents and stimulate local economic growth.
