UASU To Its Members: If You Haven’t Received Your Salary, Don’t Work

Learning may be paralyzed in public universities if the government does not release capitation fees.

The University Academic Staff Union (UASU) has announced that members will camp out at the finance department offices on Monday to demand their salaries after it was revealed that they had not received their March salaries.

“Come Monday, if you have not received your salary, don’t work. Go to your various finance offices, wait there until you are paid,” UASU Secretary General Constantine Wasonga says.

The over 10,000 academic staff members also want all vice chancellors appointed in 2012 to step down to allow for a smooth transition.

Wasonga claims that their continued presence is influencing the council’s decision to start recruiting new VCs.

“They have refused to leave. Therefore appointment of new VCs can not take place. What interest do they have in our universities? Why can’t they leave?”
