Raymond Kipruto Moi, son of the late President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi, was defeated by United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Paul Chebor in the Rongai Parliamentary seat.
Chebor, the newly elected Member of Parliament, received 27,021 votes, while Moi, the outgoing Member of Parliament, received 14,725 votes.
In a political contest that appeared to pit the Moi family against President-elect William Ruto, Luka Kigen of Chama cha Mashinani (CCM) finished third with 593 votes.
“I thank the people of Rongai for believing in me. I promise to deliver and I will not let them down. I promise to work with all the residents irrespective of whether they voted for me or not,” the MP-elect said.Â
After his younger brother Gideon Moi was defeated in the Baringo Senate race by William Cheptumo, the outgoing MP, who had raised allegations of voter bribery, was the last member of the Moi family to hold a seat.
The constituency, which has 84 625 registered voters, according to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission – IEBC, witnessed turnout of less than 70 percent.
