UDA convenes NEC meeting after SG Malala ouster drama

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party is set to convene a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting following Tuesday’s ‘ouster’ of the party’s Secretary-General, Cleophas Malala.

Embu governor Cecily Mbarire who also doubles as the party’s national chairperson on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, said that the Party will be convening the meeting on Friday.

Mbarire and other officials had earlier condemned the chaos witnessed at the party’s headquarters and an attack on Joe Khalende.

“He has been badly hurt,” she said while condemning the “mobilised mayhem” witnessed at the offices, which took the deployment of police officers to quell.

However, Governor Mbarire highlighted that no individual can declare themselves an official without following Party structures.

“UDA has a constitution. Somebody cannot come to the party and declare themselves an official of the party without following the laid down party procedures.”

She said Friday’s NEC meeting would address the matter and announce the actions the party will take in response.

“The party will be back on its feet and we will not allow this to continue. We will take necessary action on Friday after the NEC meeting,” Mbarire told journalists.
